Imported Water
On an average year, Upper Water imports 30,000 acre-feet/year (AFY). The quantity of water available for import is affected by drought, legal and a number of other factors, including regulatory constraints and costs.
Located in the San Gabriel Canyon, just below Morris Dam, is Upper Water’s primary point of delivery service connection which imports water for groundwater replenishment. This delivery outlet is known as the USG-3 Connection.
Wholesale Water Supplier
Metropolitan Water District of Southern California is the wholesale water agency for Upper Water. As a member agency of Metropolitan, Upper Water can appoint a representative who sits on Metropolitan’s Governing Board. This allows Upper Water to actively engage in the federal, state and local governmental arenas with respect to water policy and legislation affecting our State and region’s water supply.
Metropolitan imports water from two conveyance systems: State Water Project and Colorado River Aqueduct. State Water Project is a water conveyance system owned and operated by the California Department of Water Resources (DWR). It delivers water from the Bay Delta up in Northern California to other parts of the state in Central Valley and Southern California. Upper Water’s primary imported water source is State Water Project water.
